Ratched plot

Ratched is a prequel series to One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and tells the story of Mildred Ratched who arrives in Northern California in 1947. She looks for work at a well-known psychiatric hospital where strange experiments have just begun on the human brain. She starts out as a promising nurse but slowly turns into a monster for her patients.

Prima serie. De sfeer is echt prachtig. Heerlijk om terug te kijken in deze tijd. De serie begint sterk, maar naarmate het einde in zicht komt, schiet het een beetje uit de bocht. Niet alle aflevering zijn even interessant, vooral in het middenstuk. Acteerwerk is bijzonder sterk. Tempo is traag, maar er gebeurd voldoende om je aandacht vast te houden. Gewoon genieten!

Great series. The atmosphere is really beautiful. Wonderful to look back at this time. The series starts off strong, but as the end comes in sight, things get a little out of hand. Not all episodes are equally interesting, especially in the middle part.

Acting is very strong. Pace is slow, but there's enough happening to keep your attention.

Interessante serie, waarbij met name de stilering me erg bevalt. Het spel met licht en kleuren is soms erg fraai om te zien en de aankleding is onberispelijk. Sowieso is het acteerwerk in deze serie prima, maar met name de hoofdpersone wordt erg sterk door Paulson neergezet, die een breed spectrum aan emoties weet te gebruiken: streng, charismatisch en kwetsbaar, en de afwisseling van die emoties komt natuurlijk over. Ondanks dat dit een prequel zou moeten zijn heeft haar rol maar weinig met het oorspronkelijke karakter uit One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest te maken. Wat mij betreft had het niets uitgemaakt als ze een totaal andere naam had gekregen, want de serie is spannend genoeg op zichzelf. 3*.

Interesting series, I particularly like the stylization. The play with light and colors is sometimes very nice to see and the decoration is impeccable. In any case, the acting in this series is fine, but the main character in particular is portrayed very strongly by Paulson, who knows how to use a wide spectrum of emotions: strict, charismatic and vulnerable, and the variation of those emotions comes across naturally. Although this is supposed to be a prequel, her role has little to do with the original character from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. As far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't have mattered if she had been given a completely different name, because the series is exciting enough on its own. 3*.

Mwah. Het begon interessant, maar de laatste afleveringen heb ik me aardig zitten ergeren aan de traagheid, ongeloofwaardigheid van karakters en het thema dat verschuift. Heb af en toe wel zitten zuchten. Jammer, want er had zoveel meer ingezeten qua mysterie, duister/crime en dat soort dingen, waarmee de serie in principe ook mee begint. Maar daarna slaat het te ver door naar het drama en liefde, en lijk het verhaal af en toe compleet stil te staan. De stukken die er nog wel aan bijdragen hebben dan weinig effect meer omdat het te fragmentarisch wordt. Blijft net op een voldoende hangen.

Mwah. It started out interesting, but the last episodes I was really annoyed by the slowness, unbelievability of characters and the shifting theme. I did sigh every now and then. Too bad, because there could have been so much more in terms of mystery, darkness/crime and that kind of thing, which is basically how the series starts. But then it goes too far towards drama and love, and the story seems to come to a complete standstill every now and then. The parts that do contribute to it then have little effect anymore because it becomes too fragmented. It just stays at a sufficient.
