Physical plot

Physical is set in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego. Sheila Rubin is a quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife who supports her smart but controversial husband. But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own dark, funny take on life that she rarely shows the world. She also battles a complex array of personal demons related to her self-image; that is until she finds liberation through the most unlikely source: the world of aerobics. Initially hooked on the exercise itself, Sheila's real path to empowerment comes when she discovers a way to merge this newfound passion with the burgeoning technology of the videotape to start a revolutionary business.
