The four-part Marriage begins with a discordant a capella musical intro. Is this intro symbolic of what is to come; not understanding and not hearing each other? Marriage is a dramedy with slow and silent camera shots, subliminal emotions and painfully awkward moments. The focus is on the 27-year-married couple Ian (Sean Bean) and Emma (Nicola Walker). Two-time BAFTA award winner and creator Stefan Golaszewski sketches their life with colleagues, children and parents in a sober style, around themes such as loss, grief and self-development.

Marriage is convincing - leave that to the two top actors - but can also be alienating at times. Daughter Jessica (an excellent Chantelle Alle) provides a fresh input and a touch of lightness and humor. This British drama is not a ready-made morsel, but asks the viewer to go along to the deeper layers of the story. Marriage celebrates everyday life in a marriage. No frills. No streamers.

Not everything needs to be explained.

I accidentally fell into the final scene of episode 4 and was immediately gripped. Meaningful moments from the daily life of an elderly couple, who know each other inside and out and need few words. Life is not an exciting plot without a history, and therefore not everything needs to be explained: the interaction with family/neighbours/colleagues has grown so much over the years. Recognisable routines such as groceries and problems with the wifi. Yet there is indeed a development in four episodes with highs and lows. Don't expect big twists but enjoy this wonderful couple who need each other so much.

About the repetitive, somewhat stressful vocal part: perhaps chosen because it was more appropriate than yet another light-hearted piece of music.
