Mad Man zooms in deeply on the characters and therefore sporadically has quite a soap level, in this season this soap level takes on a level where I feel uncomfortable. What a mess is going on in the lives of the characters: The separation from bed and table of Pete and Trudy, his demented mother, Ted who has an affair with Peggy, but especially Don's affair with the neighbor, which comes into the picture most prominently because he is, of course, the main character of the series. I have a lot of sympathy for Don's wife Megan, but apparently the series manages to identify me wonderfully with Don, because every scene of him cheating again makes me feel like I'm the cheater myself and that's a horrible feeling. I also get it with Ted when I see how much his wife loves him. I don't want to be a moralist and people have to live their lives in their own way, especially fictional characters, but the adultery content here is just so great that it makes me uncomfortable.

The series is strongest for me when Don shows his genius at marketing and his sense of how that world works. This is mainly seen here around Chevrolet, but otherwise he seems to have taken a step back and left the work mainly to Peggy. Unfortunately, the beautiful and/or funny moments are also rare. In the "beautiful" category, the most outspoken moment is Don telling a very awkward but personal story about Hershey chocolate. And in the "funny" category of course Roger firing Burt Peterson for the second time. Because these moments are sparse, and the soap content is high, the desire to watch the next season is unfortunately not very great anymore , but since the next one is the last season, I'll start on it anyway. 2.5* for this season.
