Lucas Tanner plot

Lucas Tanner is a former St. Louis Cardinals baseball player and writer for Sports Week magazine. After his wife Ellie and their son Chip are killed in a car accident, Lucas decides to become a schoolteacher in the nearby St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, Missouri. He teaches English and American literature at Harry S. Truman Memorial High School. He approaches this in an idealistic way and rebels against the rules in force that prevent him from connecting with the students.
