Klem plot
What if you find out that your youngest daughter is best friends with the daughter of a dangerous criminal? What if you pick up your daughter from that criminal, he gets shot at the front door and you accidentally save his life? What if he considers you his best friend from then on? And if you also have a high position at the Tax and Customs Administration and it is better not to be spotted in the vicinity of a criminal? Then you're stuck. The series follows tax official Hugo and top criminal Marius, whose lives become increasingly related through their daughters.

Very entertaining series. The theme: how do you, as a good hardworking citizen, unwittingly end up in crime. And it does well in the imagination. Barry Atsma plays the neat observant father and tax official Hugo Warmond, who rolls from one precarious situation to another, as if the devil is playing with it.
As a professional criminal, Jacob Derwig convinces Marius with his golden heart. A beautiful role, made for him. Like Kitty, Georgina Verbaan is more of a 'type' who provides the comic relief.
I think this first season is the best, although the story starts a bit slow. More criminal entanglements follow in seasons 2 and 3 and then things get a bit unbelievable and caricatured at times. Same problem actually as with Penoza.

'Hollands Hoop' (2014) wanted to be very similar to 'Breaking Bad', but I think 'Klem' (2017) ultimately succeeded in getting closer to that American hit series. The drama surrounding the two family men (Marius and Hugo) blends well with a plot that takes satisfying twists and turns and creates a tasteful, stylish atmosphere of the different worlds the characters move into. As said before, it's a shame it doesn't have the depth it should have in the end. Not in the way in which the underworld and the upper world become intertwined. Not in the character development and psychology of the characters.
And yet the series manages to remain fun, as it takes itself just seriously enough to suck you in, but has plenty of comedic asides like Marius' swearing cannonades or the absurd details surrounding it (a possible ballet school reckoning, a variegated evening where criminal/tax inspector perform an act, etc) Klem entertains in any case, and then I must also mention the greatest discovery: Georgina Verbaan! Her Kitty is developed at least as interestingly as the characters of Jacob Derwig and Barry Atsma.

Even found Barry Atsma enjoyable every now and then! Georgina Verbaan is irritating as usual. Derwig went well and the daughters also came out funny every now and then.
But not a special series. Such a cuddle criminal who happens to try to get an old buddy / bigwig at the BD for his cart, it could only be such a good story, but it is all very lukewarm.
The title would have fit perfectly with a film about a KL(e)M pilot who gets stuck in the cockpit of an abandoned plane for 127 hours.
