Gråzon plot

Gråzon revolves around a possible attack in Scandinavia, which the Swedish and Danish security services are trying with all their might to prevent. However, due to the high time pressure and persistent threat, the emotions of those involved are running high. In addition, drone engineer Victoria Rahbek finds herself in a nightmare when she is taken hostage in her own home by terrorists in possession of nuclear weapons.

Bij de openingsscene met de vrachtwagen heb ik even overwogen om te stoppen met kijken. Alweer zo'n scriptschrijver die politiemensen domme soloacties uit laat voeren en de meest simpele ingrepen laat verkloten. Echter gaandeweg steeg het niveau ietsjes, maar wel heel langzaam. Pas vanaf aflevering 5 vond ik het echt interessant worden. De laatste delen waren boeiend behalve het voorspelbare slot; de eindbestemming van de drone. Tja, en dat niemands privéleven op rolletjes loopt is ook standaard in dit soort series; daar ben ik inmiddels ook aan gewend alhoewel het stukje Eva en dochter kant noch wal raakte. Los van dat, in zijn geheel genomen, best een goede serie tussen al die andere goede Scandinavische producten. Mooie shots, goed acteerwerk door bekende gezichten en af en toe prima acties.

At the opening scene with the truck, I briefly considered stopping watching. Another script writer who lets police officers perform stupid solo actions and screw up the most simple interventions. However, gradually the level rose slightly, but very slowly. It wasn't until episode 5 that I started to really enjoy it. The last parts were captivating except for the predictable ending; the final destination of the drone. Well, and that nobody's private life runs smoothly is also standard in this type of series; I am also used to that, although the piece of Eva and daughter didn't make sense. Apart from that, overall, quite a good series among all those other good Scandinavian products. Beautiful shots, good acting by familiar faces and occasionally good actions.

De makers van deze reeks hebben het oude genre van de politieke thriller aangepast aan de eenentwintigste eeuw. Een actuele thematiek is de dreiging van een terroristische aanslag. Nieuwe technologieën zijn de drones en digitale vormen van communicatie en spionage. De verwikkelingen worden afwisselend getoond vanuit verschillende standpunten. Victoria is de toevallige heldin die gegijzeld wordt door Ilyad, een Zweed van Syrische afkomst. Jesper en Eva vertegenwoordigen de Deense en de Zweedse geheime dienst, waarbij de eerste veel losser met de regels omspringt dan de tweede. Het is geen simpel verhaaltje van de goede speurders tegen de slechte terroristen. Verschillende personages krijgen met morele dilemma’s te maken. Victoria kan het leven van haar zoontje redden door toe te staan dat veel mensen sterven bij een aanslag. Ze vertoont symptomen van het Stockholmsyndroom - wat toepasselijk is, want ze reizen heen en weer tussen Stockholm en Kopenhagen. Stilistisch is dit noordse noir, met nachtelijke scènes en duistere locaties. Afleveringen met veel dialoog leiden naar een climax met veel actie. Het is een blij weerzien met enkele topacteurs uit andere Scandinavische reeksen. Birgitte Hjort Sørensen heeft veel scènes met rauwe emoties. Ze speelt een vrouw die erachter komt dat de werkelijkheid niet altijd zwart-wit is, maar dat er ook een moreel grijze zone bestaat.

The creators of this series have adapted the old genre of the political thriller to the twenty-first century. A topical theme is the threat of a terrorist attack. New technologies include drones and digital forms of communication and espionage.

The plot developments are shown alternately from different perspectives. Victoria is the accidental heroine who is taken hostage by Ilyad, a Swede of Syrian descent. Jesper and Eva represent the Danish and Swedish secret services, with the former being much looser with the rules than the latter.

It is not a simple story of good detectives versus bad terrorists. Various characters face moral dilemmas. Victoria can save her young son's life by allowing many people to die in an attack. She exhibits symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome – which is fitting, as they travel back and forth between Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Stylistically, this is Nordic noir, with nighttime scenes and dark locations. Episodes with a lot of dialogue lead to a climax with plenty of action. It is a welcome reunion with some top actors from other Scandinavian series. Birgitte Hjort Sørensen has many scenes with raw emotions. She plays a woman who discovers that reality is not always black and white, but that a moral grey zone also exists.
