Chief of War plot

In the late 18th century, the four great kingdoms of the Hawaiian Islands are at war. Ka'iana, a Hawaiian warrior who travels outside the islands, returns home. When the islands are confronted with the bloody campaign of the western colonists, Ka'iana rises up and tries to unite his people to defeat the invaders.

Tegenwoordig op MovieMeter gaat het zelden nog over wat een film of serie technisch of artistiek neerzet. Deze serie: visueel top, sterke cast, degelijk geregisseerd, en je ziet dat de producers er veel aandacht in hebben gestoken. Maar dat telt blijkbaar niet meer. Vindt iemand het verhaal traag of niet hun smaak, dan meteen een 1 of 2. Over uitvoering, camerawerk of acteerprestaties hoor je bijna niemand meer, alsof dat allemaal bijzaak is.

These days, MovieMeter rarely discusses a film or series' technical or artistic achievements. This series: visually superb, strong cast, solid direction, and you can tell the producers put a lot of effort into it. But apparently, that doesn't count anymore. If someone finds the story slow or not to their liking, they immediately give it a 1 or 2. You hardly hear anyone talking about the execution, cinematography, or acting anymore, as if those are all secondary.
