Blue Eye Samurai plot
In 17th century Japan, where the borders are closed to the outside world, citizens never see a face that is not Japanese, except in rare cases of illegal trade. Mizu, a half-breed, knows that there were only four white men in Japan at the time of her birth and sets out to kill these men, one of whom could be her father. During her quest, Mizu hides her gender and blue eyes and is accompanied by the overzealous Ringo, the pompous samurai Taigen and his fiancée, Princess Akemi.

"Samurai out for revenge." It's amazing how the makers make this rather tired theme feel fresh. With interesting complex characters in a society based on xenophobia/misogyny, the storytelling reaches a fairly high level - with Episode 5 as the absolute pinnacle on top of the many highlights. In addition, it all looks incredibly visually slick. The blood flows freely, Mizu's eyes are blue. Season 2, come soon.
