Ally McBeal plot

Ally McBeal is a young lawyer. She works for the fictional Boston law firm of Cage & Fish, which consists of some very eccentric lawyers. She regularly visits a bar with her colleagues. A special aspect of the office are the so-called unisex toilets. The men's and women's toilets are not separated from each other, and usually important outpourings and developments take place here. Lawsuits are used to philosophize about love, sex and romance and the relationships between men and women, and to direct the life of mainly Ally.

Het tweede seizoen begint heel goed dankzij de komst van twee nieuwe personages. Je krijgt meteen het gevoel dat ze erbij horen. Portia de Rossi speelt de ijskoningin Nelle. Lucy Liu speelt haar cliënte Ling, die rechtszaken aanspant om de verst gezochte redenen. Later pas blijkt ze zelf ook jurist te zijn. De beste afleveringen zijn die waarin een interessant geschil centraal staat. Vaak is er een verband tussen het juridische conflict en het privéleven van Ally, die de zaken te veel op zichzelf betrekt en steeds verder op in haar eigen fantasiewereldje. Muziek speelt weer een grote rol, met toepasselijk gekozen evergreens in de versie van Vonda Shepard, en met een gastoptreden van de echte Barry White - geen hallucinatie! Favoriete afleveringen: 1, 2, 4, 8, 18, 21.

The second season starts very well thanks to the arrival of two new characters. You immediately get the feeling that they belong. Portia de Rossi plays the ice queen Nelle. Lucy Liu plays her client Ling, who files lawsuits for the most far-fetched reasons. It is only later that she turns out to be a lawyer herself.

The best episodes are those that center on an interesting dispute. There is often a connection between the legal conflict and Ally's private life, who focuses too much on herself and becomes increasingly absorbed in her own fantasy world. Music plays a major role again, with appropriately chosen evergreens in Vonda Shepard's version, and with a guest appearance from the real Barry White - no hallucination!
