A Discovery of Witches plot

Diana Bishop, a historian and reluctant witch, unexpectedly discovers an enchanted manuscript in Oxford's Bodleian library. This discovery forces her back into the magical world, to unravel the secrets the book holds about magical creatures. She gets help from the mysterious geneticist and vampire, Matthew Clairmont. Despite a long-held mistrust between witches and vampires, they form an alliance and set out to protect the book and solve its hidden mysteries, while dodging threats from the creature world.

Mh... ik wilde deze serie al langer zien en was blij het op Netflix tegen te komen. Helaas is het niet 'engaging' genoeg voor mij. Ergens voel ik geen connectie met de personages. Waar dat aan ligt, kan ik zo niet benoemen want echt vlak zijn ze nou ook weer niet. Verder ziet de serie er prachtig uit. De fantasy, de aesthetics (bibliotheken & manuscripten ), noem maar op: het past helemaal in mijn straatje! Alleen had er meer in kunnen zitten bij alledrie de seizoenen en dat vind echt een gemiste kans. Al is het natuurlijk een boekverfilming en kan mij tevens voorstellen dat een dramaverhaal als dit in die vorm beter past. Toevallig hiervoor het laatste seizoen van Outlander gezien. Dan mis ik Jamie en Claire toch een beetje. Al vind ik ze nog zo irritant en koppig.

Mh... I've wanted to see this series for a while and was happy to find it on Netflix. Unfortunately, it's not 'engaging' enough for me. Somehow I don't feel a connection with the characters. I can't really say why, because they're not really flat. Furthermore, the series looks beautiful. The fantasy, the aesthetics (libraries & manuscripts ), you name it: it's right up my alley! Only there could have been more in all three seasons and that's really a missed opportunity. Although it is of course a book adaptation and I can also imagine that a drama story like this fits better in that form.

Coincidentally, I watched the last season of Outlander before this. I miss Jamie and Claire a little bit. Even though I find them so annoying and stubborn.
