Journalist McNamara was determined to find the violent perpetrator, whom she dubbed "The Golden State Killer," who terrorized California in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The perpetrator is suspected of 50 burglaries with sexual violence and ten murders. I'll Be Gone in the Dark is a comprehensive exploration of the case of an elusive, violent predator, as well as personal memoirs and self-examination of McNamara's obsessive quest for justice on behalf of the victims and survivors of the crimes.

Penetrating, compelling documentary series based on the book of the same name by Michelle McNamara, a true crime journalist who became completely obsessed with the unsolved and largely forgotten case of the Golden State Killer, who claimed many victims in California in the 1970s and 1980s. On the one hand, a meticulous search for an apparently elusive serial killer, on the other hand a humiliating portrait of the obsessed McNamara, who eventually died before her investigation could be completed. Typical HBO quality; detailed and complex, exciting and emotional.
