Excellent eight-part miniseries based on Gillian Flynn's book of the same name. What an atmosphere and what a beautifully developed damaged characters. Director Jean-Marc Vallรฉe previously made the impressive Big Little Lies for HBO, but here he surpasses himself. It's only in the final episode, when the subtle, brooding approach gives way to some unbelievable scenes and a more conventional build-up of tension, that he drops a few stitches, but by then this is more than proven to be top-notch television drama.

I sometimes wonder what the end product would have been if a decent director had been hired, although the script is actually pretty weak outside of episode five as well. As in Big Little Lies, mister Vallรฉe lets any sense of atmosphere and rhythm rot in a painfully irritating stream of sentimental and pseudo-artistic editing. That filter was pretty ugly too, but that hides the fact that you don't have a good cinematic eye.
I would also have liked a little more Patricia Clarkson, for me the only interesting character, but that could also be due to the fact that I think she is a very deserving actress.
Painfully average.

Extremely atmospheric series with a breathtaking Amy Adams. Mostly brooding, as it can be in Missouri. Damaged and perhaps screwed up people who survive in a world where apparently nothing is wrong. Every house has its cross, but some crosses are almost unbearable, so that escapism through alcohol, drugs and other drugs of anesthetic leave childhood traumas unprocessed in a damn corner. But the truth always seeps in (little bit), as journalist Camille knows better than anyone. The romance with the detective was obvious, but the physical contacts were of course difficult and therefore also difficult, but fascinating to watch and experience.
The series should have ended earlier; at the entrance of the detective, for example, so that the viewer would still have something to guess. Unfortunately.
