Dept. Q plot

Carl Morck is a brilliant cop, but a terrible colleague. His razor-sharp sarcasm has made him no friends in the Edinburgh police force. After a tragic shooting, Carl becomes the sole member of Department Q: a new unit for old, unsolved cases. The department is a publicity stunt to distract the public from the failings of the police force. But more by accident than by design, Carl forms a gang of drifters with everything to prove. When the icy trail of a prominent official who disappeared a few years ago starts to heat up, Carl immediately gets to work.

Zeer onderhoudende verfilming van het eerste serie Q-boek van Jussi Adler-Olsen, De Vrouw In De Kooi. Omdat dit een tv-bewerking betreft, met een compleet andere setting, wijken plot en personages natuurlijk af van het bronmateriaal (en van de eerdere deense verfilming), maar wat mij betreft smaakt dit absoluut naar meer. Matthew Goode is heerlijk sarcastisch in de hoofdrol en het team om hem heen is ook goed gecast. Spannend, knap in elkaar gezet en vaak erg grappig.

Very entertaining film adaptation of the first series Q-book by Jussi Adler-Olsen, The Woman In The Cage. Because this is a TV adaptation, with a completely different setting, the plot and characters naturally deviate from the source material (and from the earlier Danish film adaptation), but as far as I'm concerned this definitely leaves you wanting more. Matthew Goode is delightfully sarcastic in the lead role and the team around him is also well cast. Exciting, cleverly put together and often very funny.

Aparte serie en dus geen standaard detective. In het begin sprak mij dat wel aan. Het is ook aardig geacteerd met humor, waardoor het met vlagen leuk is om naar te kijken. Echter, na een paar afleveringen is de serie naar mijn mening (veel) te langdradig en mist het opbouwende spanning. 'Saai' is misschien nog het beste woord om de serie te omschrijven. Ik ben gestopt met kijken na 7 afleveringen (waarvan ik de laatste 2 maar half heb meegekregen door bovenstaande argumenten).

A unique series and therefore not a standard detective. In the beginning that appealed to me. It is also nicely acted with humor, which makes it fun to watch at times. However, after a few episodes the series is in my opinion (much) too long-winded and lacks building tension. 'Boring' is perhaps the best word to describe the series. I stopped watching after 7 episodes (of which I only half-followed the last 2 due to the above arguments).

Echt wel één van de betere thrillerseries van de afgelopen tijd. Uitmuntende casting. Mooie en sfeervolle sets. Het regenachtige Schotland geeft ook weer een eigen kleur aan het geheel. Ook genieten van de heerlijk sarcastische een-tweetjes tussen de nihilistische Carl Morck (Matthew Goode) en de hoopvolle einzelgänger Akram Selim (Alexej Manvelov). 'Dept. Q.' (2025) is ook zo'n serie waarin zelfs bijrollen hun eigen momentjes hebben, zoals hoe slachtoffer Merrit (Chloe Pirrie) omgaat met haar gevangenschap of de frustrerende therapiesessies met Dr. Rachel Irving (Kelly Macdonald). Nu al zin in een tweede seizoen!

Definitely one of the better thriller series of recent times. Excellent casting. Beautiful and atmospheric sets. Rainy Scotland also gives the whole thing its own color. Also enjoy the wonderfully sarcastic one-two punches between the nihilistic Carl Morck (Matthew Goode) and the hopeful loner Akram Selim (Alexej Manvelov). 'Dept. Q.' (2025) is also a series in which even supporting roles have their own moments, such as how victim Merrit (Chloe Pirrie) deals with her captivity or the frustrating therapy sessions with Dr. Rachel Irving (Kelly Macdonald). Already looking forward to a second season!
