Damages plot

Damages follows the life of Ellen Parsons, a newly graduated brilliant and ambitious lawyer who joins Patty Hewes, a tough aunt who is at the top of the New York law world. Ellen is immediately assigned to the firm's most important case: the joint lawsuit of 5,000 ex-employees against their company CEO Arthur Frobisher. As Patty battles Frobisher and his lawyer, Ellen learns what it takes to win, at any cost, and that not only fortunes but lives are at stake.

Despite an always smashing good John Goodman, this time as a military chief, the season never quite gets under the skin. The plot twists are too far-fetched. The mystery isn't terribly sophisticated. The eternal battle between Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons is less interesting here than in the previous series. Strange really, because the premise of a personal injury deal with a link to the Afghanistan war should produce fireworks!? The series also looked a bit less attractive due to the budget cuts because the series started to disappear from the radar with the general public and studio executives actually wanted to pull the plug. Fortunately, it did get a final season on another channel, allowing Hewes/Parsons to take out their female envy for a while.
