Andy Dalziel hates dumbass. But what he finds worse are people who consider themselves so terribly smart. So when inexperienced, recently graduated whiz kid Peter Pascoe joins Dalziel's team at the Mid-Yorkshire CID, it's asking for trouble. Pascoe is one of the new generation of police officers. He is armed with a degree in social sciences, a caring demeanor and a keen intellect. At first he is quite impressed by the unsubtle behavior of his boss. But he soon discovers that there is also another person hiding in the clumsy facade.
