The Royle Family plot

The Royle Family is all about the ordinary Royle family, living in Manchester. Father Jim is unemployed and often spends time in front of the television, mother Barbara helps out in a bakery, daughter Denise is rather lazy, bossy and jealous, and son Antony is always a mess doing all kinds of odd jobs. Almost everything takes place in its entirety in the Royle family's living room. The family is characterized by their television and smoking addiction.

The Royle Family season 1

The Royle Family By far my favorite comedy, followed by The Office (UK). Only a living room and a dining table, but the humor of the characters is spot on. The entire cast is amazing, with dad Jim standing head and shoulders above the rest. His outbursts and language...

Ricky Tomlinson is on a roll. Also the non-verbal reactions to his son-in-law David and his mother-in-law, wonderful... Her role is played well by Liz Smith, RIP A few things I will never forget, especially in season 3 about her friend Elsie?

In the fourth and final season, the episodes run for an hour - twice as long. Its first episode, The Queen of Sheba, is a gem. The ideal mix of comedy and drama. Very moving and beautifully written and acted. In the following episodes, the level drops, but that doesn't detract from the rest of the series.

Unfortunately, The Royle Family never really became known in the Netherlands. I think it was once broadcast 'hidden' by the public broadcaster, imo would have deserved more. A solid spot in my top 10.
