The Pentaverate plot

What if a secret society, like the hypothetical Illuminati, has influenced all kinds of world events since the Black Death? Would such people actually exist, for hundreds of years carrying out a grand scheme to seize world power? This scenario has kept many people busy for a long time. This conspiracy theory is given a fictional look through the investigation of a Canadian journalist who becomes embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth behind it: and it turns out to be true! He then has to save the world from the 'Pentaverate', as the five-member organization is called.
