The Odd Couple plot

The rather casual Oscar Madison and the tidy Felix Unger were friends during their studies and years later by a combination of circumstances come to live together. Ook ik heb het origineel nooit gezien, dus die vergelijking kan ik niet maken. Ik begon dit te kijken toen Veronica in de zomervakantie besloot deze serie op de vrijdagavond uit te gaan zenden. Na vier weken trokken ze echter al de stekker eruit, waardoor ik de rest online heb moeten kijken. Ik heb me iig prima vermaakt met het eerste seizoen van deze sitcom, maar de serie moet wel overduidelijk even op gang komen. Ironisch genoeg werd het namelijk pas echt leuker op het moment dat Veronica stopte met uitzenden (vanaf de aflevering 'The Wedding Deception'). Matthew Perry is geweldig in Friends en ook hier wist hij een aantal momenten op mijn lachspieren te werken. Ik ben het wel eens met bovenstaande dat hij soms wat vermoeid overkomt, maar aangezien Oscar een lamzak is, komt hij er wel mee weg. Het wordt echter nooit volledig duidelijk of hij dit nou intentioneel doet of niet. Thomas Lennons personage, Felix, vond ik de eerste paar afleveringen helemaal niet zo leuk, maar deze maakt wel echt een groei door in de loop van het seizoen. Hij zorgt voor een aantal erg leuke situaties en zijn chemie met Lindsay Sloane (Emily) mag ook zeker benoemd worden. Ook Dani en Teddy komen tegen het einde van het seizoen beter uit de verf dan in het begin, al moet ik daar wel bij zeggen dat ik om Dani (en ook wel het sporadisch terugkerende personage Murph) niet of nauwelijks gelachen heb. Wat dat betreft ben ik benieuwd of haar rol in de volgende seizoenen wat meer meerwaarde krijgt. Al met al moet ik zeggen dat ik dit een aangenaam begin van de serie vond. Ik krijg ook de indruk dat dit een stuk leuker is dan een hoop van de andere hedendaagse komedies die je op bijvoorbeeld Comedy Central voorbij ziet komen. Minder hysterisch; en daardoor grappiger. 3,5*

I've never seen the original either, so I can't make that comparison. I started watching this when Veronica decided to air this series on Friday nights during the summer holidays. After four weeks, however, they pulled the plug, so I had to watch the rest online.

I had a great time with the first season of this sitcom, but the series clearly needs some time to get going. Ironically, it only really got more fun when Veronica stopped broadcasting (from the episode 'The Wedding Deception'). Matthew Perry is great in Friends and here too he managed to make me laugh for a few moments. I do agree with the above that he sometimes seems a bit tired, but since Oscar is a lamass, he can get away with it. However, it is never entirely clear whether he is doing this intentionally or not. I didn't like Thomas Lennon's character, Felix, for the first few episodes, but this one does really grow over the season. He makes for some really fun situations and his chemistry with Lindsay Sloane (Emily) is also worth mentioning.

Also Dani and Teddy come out better towards the end of the season than in the beginning, although I have to say that I hardly laughed at Dani (and also the sporadically returning character Murph). In that regard, I am curious whether her role will gain more added value in the following seasons. All in all I have to say that I found this a pleasant start to the series. I also get the impression that this is a lot more fun than a lot of the other contemporary comedies that you see on Comedy Central for example. less hysterical; and therefore funnier.
