The Detour season 1

Intersection of the thriller structure and time jumps of Breaking Bad and True Detective with farcical humor. At times it has a tad dark black comedy, but in general it's a happy feel good around a wonderfully thick-set dysfunctional family. Jason Jones and Natalie Zea play well together as the two bickering spouses with a high awh factor. Their two adolescent children are also cuddly. A bit of an anticlimax in the last two episodes; if the final revelations turn out to be a little less riveting than expected. Still, the final cliffhanger makes up for a lot.

The Detour season 2

It remains neuterative when you discover a fresh, new series and the follow-up season turns out to be a shadow of the previous one. 'The Detour' was already one of those bawdy shit and pee jokes, but they've reached the point where I mostly feel vicarious shame for what Jason Jones and Natalie Zea had to do. The jokes are uncomfortably harsh, while the series is forced to pretend this dysfunctional Parker family is cute. The most annoying thing is that they leave the fun concept - a road trip that got out of hand - for what it is. 'The Detour' only returns in the circumferential movements that the plot makes in flashforwards and flashbacks. Unnecessarily complicated for a series that culminates in a placenta being ejected from a fat woman's womb.
