Creator and screenwriter Kirstie Swain loves to let the main characters' thoughts run free. In the series Pure (2019), this leads to a wonderfully refreshing comedy. The six-part Sweetpea, based on the book by CJ Skuse, taps into a similar barrel. Rhiannon (a convincing Ella Purnell) takes revenge on her school bullies, annoying colleagues and ill-mannered shop assistants in her thoughts. Will she ultimately turn her thoughts into action? Sweetpea is a smooth and entertaining dark comedy, but ultimately too light to make an impression.
