Jury Duty plot

This documentary-style comedy series follows the workings of the American jury trial through the eyes of Ronald Gladden. During a normal trial, jurors are not allowed to reveal details about the case they are adjudicating. But this is not a normal thing. Everything is fake, including everyone involved. Except Ronald Gladden, he thinks everything is real.

Jury Duty season 1

So I'm in a chalet on Texel and two Germans (Shoutout to Günther and Olaf, du bist eindrucksvoll!!!) who were here before us didn't log out so we watch this in the evening and I think it's hilarious! It has that awkward humor that I love.

Too bad it's not on the Dutch prime but yes, Deutschland über alles! (Just kidding)

Jury Duty season 1

The banality of the trial. Absolutely brilliant how they built that entire fake trial around one non-actor. It gets more and more absurd, but Ronald's connections with other jurors seem convincing. Lots of lame jokes and over the top characters, such as James Marsden who plays the cliché of a superficial Hollywood actor with verve. There is also something sincere about how Ronald - despite all opposition - gets stuck into this case. Almost like a declaration of love for the jury system: the common man has an important role in the whole thing. Maybe that's why 'Jury Duty' (2023) is just a bit too moralistic for my taste. But it's still cool when you see in the last episode how shaky it was for the cast and crew to take their sympathetic underdog with them in this illusion. I'm curious to see what follow-up seasons will look like.
