Jane the Virgin plot

Jane is a religious young Latina who works as a waitress in a Miami hotel. Her life takes an unexpected turn when her doctor, Dr. Luisa Alver accidentally artificially inseminates her during a checkup. Jane's mother, Xiomara, who became pregnant with Jane at a very young age, fears she will ruin her life if she decides to keep the baby. However, Jane's traditional religious grandmother, Alba, encourages her to make her own choice. The biological father turns out to be a married man named Rafeal Solano, who has overcome cancer and is a former playboy. He also turns out to be the new owner of the hotel where Jane works.
