Big Mistakes plot

While Nicky and his sister Morgan are looking for a gift for their dying grandmother, Morgan casually steals a necklace from a local shop. However, the shop turns out to be a front for a criminal organization. The owner, Yusuf, discovers the theft and tracks them down. Instead of calling the police, Yusuf blackmails the siblings into working for the organization as penance. Although Nicky and Morgan are completely unsuited to a life of crime, they manage to survive their increasingly dangerous assignments through sheer clumsiness and chance.

Ik had een serieuze verkoudheid en heb de ganse dag in de zetel gelegen, dat is de reden dat ik toch het karakter heb gehad om dit uit te zien. Krijgt overwegend goede kritieken, alleen The Guardian is niet zo positief, dus het zal wel aan mij liggen zeker. Vond dit zelf helemaal niet grappig, eerder vreselijk irritant en flauw. Heb mij geen enkele keer betrapt op zelfs maar een glimlach....

I had a serious cold and lay on the couch all day, that is why I still had the willpower to watch this through. It is getting mostly good reviews, only The Guardian isn't so positive, so it must be me, I suppose.

I didn't find this funny at all myself; rather, it was terribly annoying and lame. I didn't catch myself even smiling once....

De zoveelste misdaadkomedie in de geest van Breaking Bad. Echt origineel is 'Big Mistakes' (2026) dan ook niet, maar Nicky (Dan Levy) en Morgan (Taylor Ortega) hebben chemie met elkaar in hun dysfunctionele broer- en zusrelatie. Het hele coming out-thema (jezelf zijn of geheimen houden voor anderen) is ook best origineel verwerkt in de duistere verhaallijnen. Al haalt het soms de spanning eruit als het bijvoorbeeld net iets langer bij Nicky's geheime vriendje blijft hangen dan nodig. De een-na-laatste aflevering wist me oprecht te verrassen met een dolkomische wending, waarin alles opeens in een ander licht komt te staan.

Yet another crime comedy in the spirit of Breaking Bad. 'Big Mistakes' (2026) isn't exactly original, but Nicky (Dan Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega) have chemistry in their dysfunctional brother-sister relationship. The whole coming-out theme (being yourself or keeping secrets from others) is also incorporated quite originally into the dark storylines. Although it sometimes takes the suspense out of it, for instance when it lingers just a little longer than necessary regarding Nicky's secret boyfriend. The penultimate episode genuinely managed to surprise me with a hilarious twist, in which everything is suddenly seen in a different light.
