Student-filled Academy City is at the forefront of scientific advancement. In addition, it is home to the Esper development program, where students with special powers can learn. High school girl Mikoto Misaka is one of the most powerful in town and can master electricity. She uses her gifts to maintain order. She does this together with her friends Kuroko, Saten and Uiharu. When strange incidents occur in the city, Mikoto discovers that every crime is related to a legendary device that can boost the powers of students.
