A lot less than the first season. Being on the run is a nice thing, but unfortunately this results in less exciting moments and plot points that are drawn out a bit too long.

The tension that made the first season so good is pushed a bit more into the background here and makes way for some more action, character development and political games. Still interesting to some extent, but just doesn't have what the first season did. There is, however, room for some nice finds and if it closes a little further, it will still be quite exciting in the last episodes. The political additions also make the whole thing a bit grander to eventually lead to a masterful climax episode.

The production value is certainly still very good. Nice set pieces are still to come and in terms of action, locations, lighting, etc. etc. All very well taken care of.

Acting by the regulars is again very good to fantastic. And the one that's really great is Sarah Wayne Callies as Sara. What a great character arc she puts down. Best new addition is of course William Fichtner as Mahone. Very good actor.

Unfortunately, it does not reach the level of the first season. Still, this second season is entertaining across the board but, with the exception of the end, it does not provide any fireworks.

Season 1 of Prison Break left me wanting more. This second season picks up where we left off and opts for a different approach, namely a cat-and-mouse game. What season 2 does very well is deepening the characters. This is especially beneficial for the two heroes Michael and Lincoln, since both Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are, in my opinion, fairly easily overshadowed by their colleagues. However, as the season progresses, you start to get to know their characters more and more and you start to empathize with them.

The show is almost completely stolen by William Fichtner as Alexander Mahone. What a cool new character that is! Very glad he's coming to season 3. Paul Adelstein is also very good, his character is also a lot less superficial here, and of course Robert Knepper as T-Bag should not remain unmentioned. The season is at times, especially during the first episodes, quite exciting, but on the other hand, it all becomes more and more predictable. Mahone is at one point so deeply in trouble that it's obvious he'll end up in jail and the mid-season arrest is totally unbelievable. I also noticed that not all storylines managed to hold up equally well (the main examples were T-Bag taking his 'family' hostage and the fuss about C-Note and his daughter).

Certainly not perfect, but again the entertainment value is very high. Prison Break is one of those series of which I can watch several episodes in a row and many of which also end with an exciting cliffhanger. Anyway, the end of this season is pretty ominous, so I'm going straight to season 3.

The score is on the narrow side, but I think 3.5* is just too scanty considering how well I had a good time.

4*
