In De Leeuwenhoek plot
Adelheid Roosen and Hugo Borst – their mothers became demented – are big Alzheimer's fans. They are amazed at the Rotterdam nursing home 'De Leeuwenhoek'. They are often moved, sometimes surprised, they laugh, feel compassion and they are also sometimes very angry. The director of the Rotterdam care institution Humanitas allows Adelheid and Hugo to be with them everywhere for weeks, Adelheid even stays overnight in the turbulent nursing home. Everything is allowed to film, even if there are too few staff and residents lack loving care and attention. Whether De Leeuwenhoek is representative of the state of nursing home care in the Netherlands? Well. A lot is going well. There's plenty going wrong. It doesn't matter. It can just be better. But then we must at least understand what someone with dementia experiences themselves. Adelheid and Hugo try to understand that even better. This series is a quest by Adelheid Roosen and Hugo Borst into how care for people with dementia can be better and more humane.
