George & Mildred plot
George and Mildred Roper move from home. The council needs the land and offers the Ropers replacement housing at 46 Peacock Crescent in Hampton Wick. The house is in a better neighborhood and Mildred is especially happy with her new environment. It's all not for George, he would rather have stayed in his old neighborhood. Mildred is annoyed by the lazy and unemployed George who shows no interest in the new social status that the house brings. The Ropers' neighbor, Jeffrey Fourmile, is also annoyed by George Roper and to a lesser extent by his wife. Everyone will have to adapt to this new situation.
