Shingeki no Kyojin plot

Hundreds of years ago, humanity was nearly wiped out by the titans. A small part of the people survived by building a metropolis with gigantic walls, higher than the largest titans. In the present, the metropolis has not seen a titan in a hundred years. But one day a colossal Titan suddenly appears and destroys part of the outer wall. Eren Jaeger and his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman witness the destruction of their city and the death of their mother at the hands of the man-eating Titans. Eren swears to kill every Titan and exact revenge for all humanity.

Dit is een beetje The Walking Dead of Game of Thrones van de anime. Eigenlijk gaat het helemaal niet om de imposant geanimeerde titanen, maar om de strijd die de mensheid moet leveren om zijn eigen menselijkheid te bewaren tegenover de oorlog die het voert. Ik ben normaal niet een enorme fan van de combinatie van getekende animatie met CGI, maar hier wordt het zo ingezet dat het de vaart en de massaliteit van de gevechten helemaal tot zijn recht laat komen. Wel jammer dat de actie steeds geforceerd onderbroken wordt met nodeloze herhalingen en suffe plot exposition. Ik hoop dat ze daarvan leren en dat het tweede seizoen wat minder opgebroken wordt met die ergerniswekkende tussenstukken.

This is a bit of The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones from the anime. In fact, it's not about the impressively animated titans at all, but about the struggle that humanity has to fight to preserve its own humanity against the war it is waging.

I'm not normally a huge fan of the combination of drawn animation with CGI, but here it's used in such a way that it really brings out the momentum and massiveness of the combat. It's a pity that the action is always forced to interrupt with needless repetitions and dull plot exposition. I hope they learn from that and that the second season is less broken up with those annoying interludes.
