Penny Dreadful: City of Angels plot

Los Angeles 1938. The city is deeply steeped in social and political tensions. When a gruesome murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega and his partner Lewis Michener find themselves embroiled in an epic tale that reflects Los Angeles' rich history: from the construction of the city's first freeways and the deep traditions of the Mexican-American folklore to the dangerous espionage of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with dark forces that threaten to tear them apart.
