Dragon Ball Super continues after the end of Dragon Ball Z, where Majin Buu was defeated and where Earth could continue to live in peace. Goku now lives his life as a farmer and despite the peace that reigns there, a new threat is on the way called Beerus, the destroyer of worlds, who is considered the strongest and most dangerous person in the universe. Beerus learns about Goku through a prophecy in which he is described as a Super Saiyan God. When Beerus hears of this, he seeks out Goku to fight him.

Ik had een jaar geleden een tijdelijk abonnement gekregen op CrunchyRoll en heb daar toen de hele Dragon Ball Super serie in het Japans kunnen kijken. Ik keek vroeger, vanaf het jaar 2000 ongeveer, heel graag Dragon Ball Z en later ook Dragon Ball GT. Als ik uit school kwam kon ik niet wachten tot er weer een aflevering op Yorin kwam. Er kwam toen ook een Nederlandse vertaling van de manga op de markt en daar had ik toen een abonnement op genomen. Was ook wel blij toen ik hoorde dat er een nieuwe serie in de maak was. Zou ik het nog steeds zo leuk kunnen vinden als toen ik nog een tiener was? De serie begon leuk met Bulma's verjaardag. Het deed me wel wat, vanuit nostalgisch oogpunt denk ik, dat daar alle oude personages waar ik vroeger zo graag naar keek weer terug te zien waren. Het komische gedeelte (hoe er met Beerus wordt omgegaan als men nog niet weet wie hij werkelijk is, en Beerus' en Whis' eetlust) zit ook wel snor. Ook leuk dat bepaalde personages die wat meer naar de achtergrond waren verdwenen in Z weer wat prominenter in beeld kwamen tijdens deze saga. Het viel me wel op dat de tekeningen maar matig waren, helaas. Gemiddeld absoluut vermakelijk, maar niet "Super" 3,5 sterren.

I got a temporary subscription to CrunchyRoll a year ago and was able to watch the entire Dragon Ball Super series in Japanese.

I used to watch Dragon Ball Z very much, from about the year 2000, and later also Dragon Ball GT. When I got home from school I couldn't wait for another episode to air on Yorin. A Dutch translation of the manga was also released at the time and I had taken out a subscription to it. I was also happy to hear that a new series was in the works. Could I still enjoy it as much as when I was a teenager?

The series started nice with Bulma's birthday. It did affect me, from a nostalgic point of view I think, that all the old characters I used to love to watch were back there. The comic part (how to deal with Beerus if people don't know who he really is yet, and Beerus' and Whis' appetite) is also a must. It's also nice that certain characters that had faded more into the background in Z came into the picture more prominently during this saga.

It struck me that the drawings were only mediocre, unfortunately.

Average absolutely entertaining, but not "Super"
