Using these authentic archive images, the series shows the harsh reality of the war up close. The documentary features, among other things, rare footage of the Katyn massacre in Russia, the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk, the inhumane treatment of French soldiers captured by the Nazis and the sacrifice of Soviet soldiers at Stalingrad.
