Neve Campbell previously announced that she will not be reprising her role in the newest instalment of the Scream franchise, known as Scream 6 currently. But, why?
The character of Sidney Prescott is the main protagonist of the movie series and has been played by Campbell for over 25 years, starting with Scream in 1996.
Though Sidney appeared in 2022's Scream, the focus was on a new generation of characters striving to survive the murderous Ghostface.
Campbell was poised to return in Scream 6, but she confirmed that a pay dispute will lead to Sidney not appearing.
"Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film," she told Deadline.
"As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.
"It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me.
"I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."
Who will be in Scream 6?
Scream 6 will focus on the surviving heroes of the previous film, Melissa Barrera's Sam Carpenter, Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding).
Even though Campbell will not return, there will be another legacy character involved in the form of Gail Weathers (Courtney Cox).
There will also be a major return from Scream 4, as it was revealed in Scream 5 that Hayden Panettiere's Kirby Reed actually survived the events of two movies ago.
Kirby emerged as one of the breakout characters of Scream 4, and in Scream 5 eagle-eyed viewers spotted a thumbnail on a YouTube video which described her as a Woodsboro survivor.
As well as Campbell, one actor definitely not returning will be David Arquette, as Dewey Riley was killed off in Scream 5.
