Why has 'New World Order' been SCRAPPED from Captain America 4 title?

Marvel recently announced a title change for Captain America 4, with 'New World Order' being replaced by 'Brave New World'.

At the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers made the decision to travel back in time and stay in the past in order to stay with his former love, Agent Carter.

It was a perfect end to the character's arc in the MCU, but it opened questions about Cap's future.

Anthony Mackie has been given the reins and the shield following the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he'll star in Captain America: Brave New World which is set for release in 2024.

Why was New World Order controversial?

When the first title of Captain America: New World Order was released, it caused controversy due to some historical and current connotations.

The term first became prominent after the Second World War, when figures like Winston Churchill used it when discussing the balance of power as the world began to heel.

It has also been linked to conspiracy theories alongside groups like The Illuminati. Some will best know the term from the iconic WCW stable, the nWo.

In more recent years, New World Order has become a term linked with far-right rhetoric and anti-semitism. It is for that reason that Marvel and Disney have opted for the more hopeful title of Brave New World.

A new Captain America

Rogers, played by Chris Evans, was a hugely popular Cap, so Mackie has his work cut out, but the actor has explained how Sam Wilson is a different animal to Steve.

"With my Cap, he's not a superhero," he told Yahoo.

"He doesn't have a super serum, so his superpower is his humanity. I think with him, he has to come to the stage with a very different understanding of what it is to be a good guy, or be a bad guy, and what are the decisions that make you toe that line in the way that you do?

"I just see him as more of a humane Cap, as opposed to a Cap of judgement, where 'this is right, and this is wrong.' There are decisions that make you choose right or wrong,"

Captain America: New World Order will be released in May of 2024.
