Melissa Barrera's first comments after being fired from Scream franchise

Melissa Barrera has spoken for the first time since being fired from the Scream franchise.

Since the 2022 reboot of Scream, which was a critical and commercial success, Barrera has led the horror series and featured as Sam Carpenter again in 2023's Scream VI

With Neve Campbell sitting out Scream VI, Barrera became the undisputed main character of the series. But, she will no longer appear in Scream VII after being accused of antisemitism.

The actress has posted a number of pro-peace posts on social media relating to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Spyglass released a statement accusing Barrera of antisemitism:

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

The majority of Scream fans would show their support for Barrera, with some even calling for a boycott of Scream VII.

The 33-year-old herself has broken her silence and insists she will continue to advocate for what she believes is right.

"First and foremost I condemn Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people," she wrote on Instagram.

"As a Latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need.

"I will pray day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence, and for peaceful co-existence.

"I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom. Silence is not an option for me."

Jenna Ortega leaves Scream VII

In what proved to be a news story of hugely coincidental timing, it was also reported within the last day that Jenna Ortega has also left the Scream franchise, allegedly due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday.
