Is Bad Boys 4 going to happen?

Martin Lawrence is confident that Bad Boys 4 will happen, despite Will Smith currently taking a break from the limelight after slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards.

During the Oscars Ceremony, Smith went on stage and slapped Rock after jokes were made about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

He would later go on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard, but he would subsequently receive a 10-year ban from attending the ceremony due to his actions earlier in the evening.

As the fallout from the slap continues, several projects involving Smith have been delayed, including Bright 2, Fast and Loose and Emancipation.

Bad Boys 4 has been in development following the success of Bad Boys For Life, the third instalment in the series, and questions were raised about its production after Smith's Oscars ban

However, it is still on course, according to Lawrence, who told Ebony:

"We got one more at least."

Bad Boys impact

Lawrence also reflected on how Bad Boys catalysed his career in Hollywood, as before the 1995 release he was known as a comedy actor on television.

"It was big," he continued.

"For us to come together and prove that we can deliver, and we can pull people into the box office – that two black stars, two sitcom stars, could make the money at the box office (was huge).

"I didn't go to college, so I felt TV was my college years. I felt with movies, I had graduated; it was just different."

Lawrence also revealed that the reason for the extended period of time between Bad Boys 2 and Bad Boys For Life is that Smith wanted the script to be close to perfect before signing on.

"It took so long because of Will. He wouldn't do the script unless it was right," he explained.
