Margot Robbie is set to take a break from acting after the enormous success of Barbie.
The Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, grossed $1.45 billion at the box office and is officially the most successful film ever with a female director at the helm.
Robbie spent the majority of 2022 and 2023 filming and then promoting Barbie due to her responsibilities as the lead actor and producer. She previously founded LuckyChap Productions in 2014 with her husband Tom Ackerley, and that company has produced many big movies like I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Promising Young Woman and the recent Saltburn.
The actress reckons people are "probably" sick of the sight of her now, which is why she is putting acting in front of the camera on the back burner for a while.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break,’” she said in an interview with Deadline.
“I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while.
“Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
Ocean's 11 prequel
Robbie does one have near-confirmed project on the horizon and that is a prequel to Ocean's Eleven.
The new movie will focus on the parents of Danny and Debbie Ocean, played by Robbie and Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling. They will teach their kids how to steal from the rich which, of course, will set them up for a life of crime which we see in the modern movies.
It will take place in the 1960s.
