Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold has revealed the first image of Harrison Ford as the legendary hero for the upcoming fifth instalment of the series.

The Indiana Jones franchise is one of the most popular and beloved in the history of film, with four movies being made so far.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was released in 1981, and that was followed up by The Temple of Doom in 1984 and The Last Crusade in 1989.

After a 19-year hiatus, Ford returned to the role for a fourth instalment, 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

That movie received a mixed reception from fans, but earned $790 million at the box office which led to plans for a sequel.

In May of 2020, Mangold was confirmed as director, while he has written the screenplay alongside Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas will still be involved as executive producers.

Who will star in Indiana Jones 5?

Not a lot is known about the fifth entry of the franchise beyond the cast which includes Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas, and Olivier Richters.

For the fourth movie, shooting was largely kept to the United States, but the fifth is set to go international.

Extensive filming has been completed in Scotland at locations in Biggar, Glencoe and Glasgow City Centre. 

Other locations included London, Sicily and Morocco.
