Confederate officer, Captain Kerry Bradford, escapes from the Confederate prison and flees to Virginia City, Nevada. There, Bradford discovers that Captain Vance Irby, the former boss of his prison, plans to pay $5 million in gold bars to save the Confederate States. Both Bradford and Irby are in love with Julia Hayne, who sympathizes with the Confederates. Through a ruse through Julia, Irby manages to capture Bradford again. With the help of John Murrell, the leader of a large band of outlaws, Irby manages to escape to the South with the cargo of gold bars. Julia and Bradford also travel with the caravan. Along the way, however, it turns out that Murrell is not a reliable business partner.
