The gang of Sam Crew and Sonora Joe and his men set out to steal a newly arrived livestock. John Steele, the sheriff, has been sent by the governor to stop them from doing so and to allow colonization of the rugged terrain. Outnumbered, he tries to persuade Sonora and his men to become an assistant sheriff to take on Sam Crew.
