The content of all Lone Star films with John Wayne is interchangeable with the titles and the stunts are also often the same. Nevertheless, the stuntman Yakima Canutt was quite capable and the stunts look good. The final stunt in almost all of the cutscenes is one that sends Canutt falling off a cliff into the water. This one is less spectacular.

2.5*

Rather a weak/mediocre western.

The story is, like all westerns of that time, fairly simple and easy to follow. So it's certainly not because of the story that I didn't think it was such a successful western. I found a few things to be rather illogical, or at least very coincidental. Then I think, for example, of the fact that the gang of Black John Wayne can just follow, while they were 5 minutes behind. Even when he went through the river on his horse, the gang found him with striking ease... .

I also disliked the use of supporting music in some scenes. At one point such music was used that fit perfectly to create tension, while it was just an action scene.
John Wayne certainly doesn't do a bad job, although I've seen him in a better role. He couldn't really convince me as a "worried" father anyway.

Box with John Wayne films taken out of the closet for classic Sunday and with Neath The Arizona Skies, Lawless Range and The Desert Trail, there are three of considerable age with Neath The Arizona Skies as the first.

And it must be said that this film from '34 is quite nice. Of course there is plenty to note about the acting, the girl who is clearly not an Indian, the mad pursuit or slapstick-like action, but these are all things that must be seen in the era and age of the film.

Obvious advantages are the pleasant length of an hour, John Wayne who is clearly not yet the John Wayne of later but slightly more ordinary, and the direct and simple story. And hey, that slapstick fight around the first attempt to kidnap the girl is pretty funny. And so in Neath The Arizona Skies best to do even though it just doesn't qualify for a pass.
