Two friends Tennessee Colby and Tommy Logan are mail drivers for the 'Pony Express'. When their route is canceled and they are fired by the 'Pony Express', Colby and Logan leave for Adobe Wells with their eccentric comrade Fiddlefoot. Colby is appointed deputy marshal by Marshal Bat Matson, but Logan joins a band of outlaws, led by the villainous Hobart Patterson. Patterson regularly does illegal odd jobs for corrupt businessman Walt Bledsoe, who has a monopoly in Adobe Wells' transportation business. One day, Colby has to arrest Logan for attempted murder. However, Colby gives his best friend a second chance and releases him, partly at the request of his sister Mary Logan. But when Logan commits a murder, an armed clash between Cloby and Logan seems inevitable.
