Solid.

Just like several Netflix Originals, not a high flyer, this Siege or Jadotville, but solid cinema and above all an interesting history lesson about a ridiculous conflict in Africa in 1961. It is of course cynical that you can film 100 such confrontations between 1961 and now.

Anyway, apart from the action part - also just well portrayed -, the political part is of course what really stands out. Mark Strong plays an excellent asshole. The political opportunism bursts forth, without becoming caricatured. Afterwards, his character seems to have become a minister - in real life - while the Irish soldiers were for a long time labeled as cowards.

Then it is immediately less cynical that you can film 100 such confrontations between 1961 and now.

Not a bad movie at all. The political aspect came out quite well. The hopeless situation of the Irish was thus conveyed well. It's also nice to see that the film is based on a true situation. However, I found the action (read fight scenes) relatively superficial at times. More time could also be spent on the Irish, the film could easily last half an hour longer. Jamie Dornan (Pat Quinland) played his part excellently.

Beautifully made war film about a group of Irish soldiers who have to solve a conflict in Congo. There was no one who trusted the Irish because they had done zero war conflicts until then, besides their own problems at home. The film is beautifully told and the cast plays well, and the action scenes are also highly recommended for those who appreciate a war film.
