Anthropoid plot

"Resistance has a code name"

In 1941 Czechoslovakia was occupied by the Nazis and placed under the command of SS General Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich's nickname was 'The Butcher of Prague' and after a steep rise in the SS ranks, he was third in the hierarchy of the Third Reich after Hitler and Himmler. His unprecedented brutality and reign of terror over the Czechoslovak resistance prompted the Allied authorities in London to devise a highly classified mission that could change history. Two soldiers of the Czechoslovak army - after extensive training by the British troops - were dropped in their homeland with a daring assignment: to kill the man Hitler saw as his natural successor.

The director does not have a star cast and gigantic budgets at his disposal, as in, say, Valkyrie, but still makes a nice film that looks away.

It's just a pity that the film starts at the moment Kubis and Gabcik land in the Czech Republic and no attention is paid to the training in England and the preparation of the attack.

That freed up time is spent on spinning out the days before the attack for too long, where the protagonists mainly just have to wait and even have time for a romance.

I thought the scene of the attack itself was well made without too much heroism and some bumbling stuff as it was in reality.

The last part of the film about the fight in the church is the most exciting but sometimes comes across as a bit unrealistic. I especially thought the German SS men looked stupid .... they invariably walked down the stairs of the cellar in groups of 2, only to be shot there of course.

In reality, the seven resistance fighters held out for more than 7 hours, which shows that the Germans had a pretty hard time and did not immediately have an answer or the right resources, but in the film the SS men are quite amateurish.

Nice movie but doesn't really stick.

Actually too crazy for words to process a romance in such a history. Even if something like this happened, if you're just using it for dramatic effect, like Ellis does here, you've come to the wrong place. Another point he seems unable to resolve is the dilemma of the attack versus the unquestionably brutal reprisals of the Nazis. It's touched on a few times, but that's it. Then stay away from it completely.

The first hour is difficult. Outside of a scene in a cafe, there is rarely that oppressive feeling of occupation or the nerve-wracking nature of such an operation. Found that very disappointing. Only when the attack starts, it springs up again, because the opening was also allowed to be there. As long as it focuses solely on the company and its immediate consequences, it's doable. It is significantly less around that. With Ellis at the helm, that's a bit disappointing.

Very good war film that takes you from the first moment and makes you want to know how it ends.

Just a shame about a very weak love story which hinders the strength of this war film. The two soldiers immediately come into contact with 2 beautiful women (of course always single) who are in love on the spot and immediately want a child of theirs. Even an average porn movie has a deep love story.
