"Hvor Døden svinger sit Scepter"

The war where death waves its staff.

The film premiered in 1915 and was a great success. Denmark managed to remain neutral in the First World War and was thus spared the horrors of war as shown on the big screen in this pacifist film. In the opening scene we see archive footage of Bertha von Suttner, the Austrian writer, pacifist, feminist and animal activist. The climate wasn't an issue at the time Her book 'Die Waffen nieder!' from 1889 was the inspiration for this film. The script differs slightly from the book, but captures the essence well. The battles, the wounded, the dead horse on the road, the destruction and destruction and finally the cholera epidemic that brings the drama to a climax.

The weapons were deposited and noted.
