I thought this site was meant to give you comments about movies, but not to finish each other off. Be mature. If I don't think it's anything to do with it, then it may or may not be.

Meritorious American-Iraqi war film, well made and excitingly constructed, although towards the end things collapse like a house of cards. The main asset is the desolate, very convincing location where the story takes place, something that contributes to the raw and grim atmosphere of the film. Directed by an American and produced by the Russo brothers (who were also responsible for the excellent action film Extraction earlier this year), you wouldn't suspect Hollywood involvement other than that.

I cannot immediately name a similar war film from the Middle East, which is why I still want to make a reference to Black Hawk Down (2001) where an unusually hard street war is also being fought. The danger lurks literally behind every corner and it is almost psychologically unbearable to chase through certain neighborhoods like this. Beautiful light images from a drone over a destroyed city.

Mosul is a pretty strong war film. For a long time you don't know who or what the Swat team is or we what they do. They are a split-off militia who, together with other (official) agencies, fight Isis. The pace and tension is high. There are no real heroes, because everyone is equally vulnerable. In addition to the violence of war, attention is also paid to the suffering of war.

Seems like a movie where it all looks very realistic. Well done. Thick 3.5*.
