Joyeux Noël plot

"Without an enemy there can be no war."

True story, set on the front in the winter of 1914. The First World War was raging and ended the lives of countless young men. When Christmas arrives, however, something completely unexpected happens. That night, the lives of four people are followed: an Anglican priest, a French lieutenant, a tenor and his singing lover, a soprano. On that night, the unthinkable happens when soldiers lay down their arms and approach each other to celebrate Christmas.

A very nice and enjoyable movie. The acting also deserves praise from me. In my opinion, this film has everything but historical accuracy. That in itself is a pity, but there are rarely films that are based on true events that are historically accurate. I don't think some parts were really possible, but let's learn from the lesson that the makers of this film wanted to give us. The fact that the soldiers each spoke their own language and accent (Scottish) absolutely charmed me. Recommended!

Although it starts a bit slow, this turned out to be a very nice film, with a powerful message at the end. As far as I'm concerned, too much time is taken to introduce the characters, it was only when the trench warfare started that I found the film really interesting. From that moment on I could empathize with the characters and the Christmas file is impressive. But what I found most powerful was what followed, Not fighting kills a war, so anyone who does is punished ruthlessly. The greatest enemy of war is mutual understanding, dialogue and respect, and that is not tolerated by those who want to keep the war going.

The Christmas Truces during WWI were something unique and arose very spontaneously and by chance. Not everywhere, but here and there there were fraternizations between German and “allied” soldiers. Solid film this Joyeux Noël who tells this. All events are a bit compressed into one film, but it remains interesting to see how it went here and there.

It was cold anyway, bitterly cold even and the soldiers were war-weary and longed for the illusion of peace after thinking months ago that the war would soon be over. It's a bit of a shame that the film has to raise a woman who casually goes into the trenches in an evening dress. Doesn't hurt credibility.

Otherwise great movie. Well presented, well acted, great decor. Some clean trenches, because the weeks and months before were quite wet. It's also good to hear that everyone speaks their language, which is always a relief.
