Entertaining thriller with a strong story that nowadays feels somewhat dated. Still worth it because of the original premise, the strong role of Mason and to a lesser extent Peck and the strong casting of Jeremy Black as 'the boy'. my DVD version is quite mediocre, time for a Blu-ray release.

Impressive feature film, which with a little good will could also be called a docudrama. Lots of historical facts (Josef Mengele, Alte Comrades, South America etc) and some also fiction.

Gloss rolls for Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier. In fact, a film that should be shown on TV every year. Preferably around 4 or 5 May. Lest we forget...

Initially difficult to judge film because I don't like that especially when it comes to war films that are about the 2nd World War or anything related to it, reality is made a joke. I have therefore extensively consulted the reports of how Mengele actually died. Due to a stroke in 1979, but that was only known in 1985. When this film was released nothing was known about the fate of Mengele, so one could let the fantasy run its course. A reason for me to change my initially negative appreciation for this film in a positive way.

About the movie further:

Sometimes quite exciting, especially the last half hour and with an excellent interpretation of Mengele by Gregory Peck. The film was a bit long and had parts that seemed a bit boring to me. But all in all, good entertainment.

3.5*
