Already the 50th anniversary for this thriller, although this predicate is perhaps a little too bold for this film. I actually liked the tension. Still, the film was captivating, even in spite of the predictable plot. It is a pity that there were also improbable actions in these kinds of films, which does not benefit the credibility, especially towards the end. I also noticed the resemblance to Hitchcock, as noted by others here. They could have left out a few scenes for me, but they must have been filling: the live concerts and the scene with the sung song. Sufficient for the rest.

Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, I was curious about that. A pretty well-received film too, but in all honesty, I didn't like it much. The stalker story isn't particularly original, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a barrier. Unfortunately there is a lot more wrong. I see a lot of compliments for the acting, but I don't see it. The stalker is not really convincing and is more irritating than threatening, but it is mainly Clint Eastwood who I don't think fits at all as a soft jazz DJ, and meanwhile as a stern looking cranky womanizes the film. But then again is overrun by his clearly not quite tasty fling. I didn't believe it all that way.

But it was also quite boring. The first half we mainly look at an unbelievable romance between two rather annoying people. Fortunately, the second half is a bit more menacing, but only sporadically, and we are also watching long stretches of beach walks or conversations that are not very interesting. In a beautiful environment, that is. And often accompanied by muzak, that too. No, I was really hoping for a lot more here.

Clint and the groupies.

As a kind of resting point in his oeuvre, because not a lot actually happens - not in the story and not in the roles, because they are also not very startling. What strikes me is that the film doesn't feel dated, despite the fact that 50 years have already passed. That can be seen in Clint's too long hair and the ugly short heads of the ladies.

Clint's hand can certainly be recognized in the directing, the same style as in all his films I believe - calm in the build-up, careful and somewhat conservative - or maybe indeed is the right word.
