Fri Os fra det Onde plot
Happily married couple Peter and Pernille return to Peter's hometown with their two children. Peter is a lawyer and Pernille a teacher. Their plan is to live a quiet life here with the whole family, away from the big city. They are in the process of renovating the house, assisted by Alain, who used to be tortured in the Balkans. He is busy getting his life back on track and building a good life. This is in contrast to Josh, Peter's brother. He has lived in the town all his life and works - if he's not hanging out in the pub - as a truck driver. His girlfriend Scarlet, is pregnant and makes Josh realize that he needs to change his life. But far away from civilization, he accidentally kills the old woman Anna with his truck. Josh manages to create false evidence, with the result that Alain is identified as a suspect...

Good film in which a truck driver tries to blame a fatal accident on someone else. The gritty look of the film reinforces the gloomy and depressing atmosphere of the film. The last part is very similar to Straw Dogs, and is almost as exciting. Unfortunately, the credibility is somewhat compromised because some characters go too far and the twist (the actual circumstances of the accident) at the end was also unnecessary. More than 3.5 stars.

The film opens with a quirky atmosphere, images with a filter over them and beautiful music and sounds behind it. Scandinavia is good at those things. Then we get to see a village with apparently standard figures. Sometimes something chosen but again not eccentric. The film ripples on in an atmosphere whose temperature continues to rise. Before you know it, things escalate and some things continue to reverberate. It is striking that the married couple is played by a Danish stand-up comedian and the singer of Aqua (Barbie girl) in her film debut. No obvious choices. It is striking that the cast is well placed and after a while you are part of this stuffy film.

A Scandinavian art and masterpiece in terms of execution: the use of color, the contrasts, the close-ups. The plot is not really special but is increasingly exaggerated towards the end; sometimes even over the top. The 'what really happened' question is a well thought out twist at the end of the story. An occasionally intense but well put together thriller.
